This Christmas season I've had two things on my mind: trying to cut back on the number of treats and unhealthy foods we eat during the holidays, and trying to find ways to spend much more meaningful time together, especially with Katelee. ;) I was thinking about these two things when trying to come up with our Christmas Countdown this year. We've come up with an idea that may become a new family tradition!
Introducing our Christmas Countdown!
(I know, REALLY crafty and high-tech...)
Each year we make some sort of Christmas countdown. Usually each day is accompanied by a treat, but we really don't need more treats around here. And though Katelee loves treats, she loves time and attention even more. So we made our Christmas countdown chain as usual, only this year we wrote an activity on each link that we can do as a family. (Although we did throw a few "Get a Treat" papers in there.)
We chose activities that we knew Katelee would love. We also chose activities that we could do with her right before bedtime, when we take one paper off each night. The activities range from "read an extra story tonight," to "have a pillow fight," to "tell 5 things we love about Katelee," to "dance to a Christmas song" and more. Katelee thinks its great because she gets to stay up a little later and do something with our undivided attention; she thinks she is cheating bedtime a little, and she loves it!
Katelee helped me make the paper chain, and even wrote all the numbers on the papers. Doesn't she have the sweetest little hands?
Well, the chain is sitting on our piano and so far it has been a huge success. We all love it! Tonight we played a hilarious game of duck, duck, goose and Katelee almost giggled her little head off. :)
We are excited about this new tradition and hope it continues to be a fun way for us to spend even more time together as a family this holiday season!
