It is now officially time to FREAK OUT!

It's hard to believe how fast things are moving; we just found out yesterday that we were even accepted to graduate school, and now our house is going up for sale and we've learned that Gerald needs to take a summer class in Colorado that starts June 8.  Did you hear what I said?  JUNE 8!  That is way too soon for my brain to comprehend.  So, we need to sell our house, pack up everything, find a new place to live, and be in Colorado in about 6 weeks.  I am so overwhelmed that I feel immobile; like I don't know where to start first and so I'm not doing anything at all.  I just really need everything to slow down a little bit so I can plan and organize.  Just pray that our house will sell for a decent price and that we can have the faith that we are going to need over the next couple of months.  And I would appreciate any tips about selling a house, packing and moving, and finding a new place to live from you experts out there.

  1. Oh good luck to you! I hope that you will have better luck than us at selling you house. We are at the point of considering renting until something happens.

As far as packing goes I made sure to write down everything that went in each box and color code the boxes to go to each specific room.

Good luck, I hope you enjoy Denver, I have a brother living there and he LOVES it there!

  3. First...easier said than done but put the freaking out aside until after you are settled in CO....try not to think...try to just "do"...so make a "to do list" and decide what you may need to keep with you in case you end up in temporary living conditions...like a weeks worth of clothes in your suitcases, essentials for Katelee, certain favorite toys of hers, a box of pots and pans, sheets, etc. that you may need to get to in case your other boxes are in storage for a month or something. Then decide what can really get packed first such as Holiday decorations, out of season clothes, etc. Then move to the things that aren't essential to everyday, like wall hangings, books, drapes, etc. and slowly you'll be left with what you guys need until the last few days before the move. Also, this has worked for us everytime in our 13 moves: find someone- a relative, a friends relative, who is in the church- and contact them about wards, school districts, cost of living, to find out what area would be a good one for you in Denver. You never know who may know of a place for you there. And it really helps to know about things from a locals perspective...like commute time, etc. Pack things by room, even if you end up with weird combinations of things...it will make unpacking so much easier. wrap cardboard around the corners of frames to protect them. ziplock any curtain hardware, bed hardware, etc. so that the nuts and bolts stay together and label the ziplocks. Also: it is a big deal for kids. Make sure that Katelee knows that it is an "adventure" and put a positive spin on all move talk so that she doesn't pick up on the anxiety that is creeping in with all the unsure things right now. :) It will be an awesome experience for you guys...just remember when things get crazy that this is what you've been praying for and you will feel calm knowing that you are on the right path.:) You're in my thoughts and prayers...honestly, you are one of the most sweet and caring people.:)

  4. No really good tips here, but there are prayers that your house will sell, and congratulations to Gerald for getting in. We will miss you when you move!

  7. Every day just pack about 5 boxes or so of stuff that you know you won't need in the next 6 weeks. And I'll try to bring you over some boxes next week. :)
